Umbrella Bird Jewllery sells unique wire wrapped jewellery. Each piece is carefully handcrafted by Nicole Del Negro in beautiful Vancouver BC. Nicole is an 19-year jeweller, student, artist and entrepeneur who is passionate about creating things.
In the summer of 2013, Nicole began experimenting with wire wrapped jewellery. Her initial pieces were made as gifts for family and friends, and they were so well received that she decided to sell her creations and share them with the world.
Thus, Umbrella Bird Jewellery was born.
Inspired by the gemstones she works with, and the natural beauty of British Columbia, Nicole aims to create beautiful pieces that are must-haves for all jewellery lovers.
What do you like best about being a Farmers Market Vendor?
I love meeting new people and getting to share what I do with them. Being a Farmers Market vendor gives me the opportunity to interact with customers, help them pick out the perfect piece (or pieces), and show them how I make my jewellery. I bring all my tools and supplies to each Farmers Market, so I’m always prepared to make custom pieces or do a demonstration.
What attracted you to the River District Farmers Market?
The beautiful scenery and wonderful market staff! When it’s sunny, River District is an ideal place to spend a day outside. It is a lively and bustling community, so the atmosphere is always great. The market staff are also incredibly friendly and helpful, which makes the market even more pleasant.
What is your passion other than making jewellery?
Other than making jewellery, I love making art in general. Painting and sculpting are some of my other preferred media. It is really exciting for me to be able to design something in my head and then make it a reality.
What is your favourite part of the job?
Making custom jewellery is my favourite part of the job. The process involved working closely with the customer to design a piece that is unique to them.
What is your least favourite part of the job?
Definitely when it rains at an outdoor event.
How do you unwind after a long day at the Farmers Market?
I like to eat a big dinner, snack on any goodies I bought from the amazing vendors at the market, and get to bed early.
