Liz Peters and Sweetness Squared started out as a home-based business as a way to express her creative passion for baking after the kids had all left home. Liz committed herself to one market, just to try it out, and was immediately hooked! A hobby had suddenly turned into a successful enterprise. And, everyone who loves her baked creations is thankful for Sweetness Squared.
What do you like best about being a Farmers Market Vendor?
I love seeing my customers face to face. There is nothing better than seeing the look on someone’s face when they take their first bite of something really delicious!
What attracted you to the River District Farmers Market?
The location is perfect! I live just up the hill, and it’s so nice to spend the day down by the river.
What’s your passion other than baking?
Firstly, it would be my family. We have grown kids, and grandchildren and enjoy spending time with them. I’m also passionate about my “other” career. I’ve worked in the affordable housing section for over 20 years, mostly in housing co-op management.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Seeing people willing to spend their hard-earned money on something I baked!
What’s your least favourite part of the job?
Packing up after a market, and unloading at home. I alway wish there was a farmers market fairy to do this.
How do you unwind after a long day at the Farmers Market?
We almost always go out for a nice dinner, with a cold beverage, and talk about how the day went. My husband, Don is working with me this season so neither of us wants to cook after a market day.
