May 2019 Community Newsletter

May 2019

‘The world’s favourite season is spring. All things seem possible in May.’, says Edwin Way Teale. It shows in all the flowers that have bloomed and the turning of leaves to a vibrant green. Easter has passed, and with that, we add another wonderful memory of our Annual Golden Easter Celebration with the River District community. This month we continue celebrating the warmer months with our Wine Wednesday’s Cinco de Mayo theme featuring tequila. For our Ladies’ Night, we will be bringing a little piece of nature indoors with an Open Terrarium Design session. We will also be holding a Pot-a-Plant session in anticipation for Mother’s Day and a Self-Defense class for everyone for our Family Fun Day Sunday.

Join us for upcoming activities at River District.

Ladies Night – Open Terrarium Design Session

Does your favourite space at home contain nature? Perhaps it’s a tiny piece of driftwood, a shiny pebble, a husk of a seed pod or even a pretty leaf? All these treasures can be presented in your terrarium. Terrariums are an ancient way of keeping plants inside and they can be a modern, chic addition to your home.

Not a gardener? No problem! We can make it possible for anyone, with or without a green thumb, to have a little piece of nature indoors. Join Aimee for a fun-filled session.

Aimee is a Horticultural Therapist, jewellery designer at and instructor of Soil Science at KPU.

A look back at some of the fun had at River District.

Golden Easter Celebration

This year’s Golden Easter Celebration was bigger than ever, with events happening in both Town Centre and the River District Neighbourhood Centre. The Golden Egg Hunt proved to be so popular that all eight slots filled up within hours after registration opened so an additional slot was added. Mother Nature was truly on our side as we had the perfect weather for a day of fun activities. The sun shone on everyone as the kids happily searched for Easter chocolates. We’d like to thank everyone who celebrated with us and we hope to see you again next year!

Save-On-Foods Grand Opening

Last month, Save-On-Foods officially opened its doors to the River District community! After a long anticipated wait, we were treated to a wonderful grand opening with live music, games, cotton candy and other giveaways. Shopping for necessities has never been so convenient and comfortable with the help of Save-On-Food’s warm and welcoming staff. If you haven’t been yet, pop by to check out our newest neighbours at One Town Centre.
