October 2018 Community Newsletter

October is here, fall is near.

October 2018

Seems like summer just flew by! Just because the nights are getting shorter and sun is a little less bright, doesn’t mean the fun is over. We have plenty of events during the month of October to make the transition to fall a little easier.

The River District Drive-In Movies are back! We are excited to host 3 MORE FREESaturday double-features in October with the last two nights featuring something spooky for Halloween. We’d also like to thank our newest neighbour Scotiabank (just moved into River District Town Centre) for the complimentary popcorn. It’s not the movies without popcorn.

This month, we are switching things up a little with Wine Wednesdaysby featuring a beer night in celebration of Oktoberfest. We will be sampling beer selections with the folks down at Everything Wine.

For this month’s Ladies Night, we will be heading back to school… coffee school that is. We will be going over the basics to making a perfect cup of joe, including coffee beans, roasting and grinding, with our neighbours at Starbucks in River District Town Centre.

And, we didn’t forget the kids, Science World on the Roadis back for its Halloween edition along with a pumpkin carving contest and craft session. Plus, join us on Halloween day for some tricks and treats (mostly treats).

Savour Summer Festival

This year’s Savour Summer events brought crowds down to our River District Town Centre four times this past summer to total approximately 7,500 people who all danced, ate, and had fun at the July and August evenings.

Our grand finale event brought PAW Patrol back for a special meet and greet along with a fire juggler, Bobs and Lolo and many other musical acts. A special thank you for our neighbour and partner Westminster Savings for the wonderful face painting, balloon animals, cupcakes and games.

And, thank you to everyone who came to our festival, we hope you had as much fun as we did and we hope to see you again next summer!

September Drive-In Nights

Last month, we saw the return of Drive-In Nights at River District. A free and fantastic line up of movies (some newly released ones and some classics) for the young and the older ‘kids’ to enjoy. Food trucks like Japadog made it easy for parents to bring the kids without worrying about dinner beforehand. Special thanks to Scotiabank (our newest retail neighbour at Town Centre) for the complimentary popcorn and to everyone who donated to the South Vancouver Family Place.

Be sure to join us for October Drive-In Movies.

Wine Wednesday: Award Winners

Last month we tested some of the tried and true favourites of award winning wines selected by wine lovers and critics alike. We tried a range of wine types, from Chardonnay to Rioja, from across the globe. Each of the wines we tried had a succinct taste that reigned it victorious over hundreds of other wine varieties.

We are looking forward to switching it up and sampling some craft beer this month in honour of Oktoberfest!

Ladies Night: Kombucha

What’s with Kombucha? Why is it so popular? What are its benefits? Why is it so expensive in the stores? Last week, we brought in Kombucha expert, Sheri to teach us all about Kombucha and the wonders of probiotics. This informative session not only answered all our questions, but showed how easy and inexpensive kombucha is to make.

If you missed it, we have something else this month: Coffee and the basics of roasting and grinding beans with our friends at Starbucks.

Welcome Scotiabank to Town Centre

There’s another new kid on the block on the ‘SCENE’. Scotiabank has moved into their new home at Town Centre.

We are thrilled to have branch manager Naheed and her team join the family at River District Town Centre.

Welcome everyone.

TD Bank’s Grand Opening

On Saturday, September 22nd, the gang at TD held their River District branch opening from 11am to 2pm. Delicious treats by Creme de la Crumb, entertainment by Shylo Sharity, friendly staff with great advice, & a chance to win $1,000.

So happy to hear that the staff at TD are enjoying their new digs.
