October 2019 Community Newsletter

October 2019

It’s officially fall as the days are shorter and the leaves start to turn into their vibrant warm colours.

In celebration of fall, we’re excited to bring you our very first Octoberfestival, an event the entire family can enjoy. Kids will wonder at the Science World’s self-carving pumpkin demonstrations and enjoy the sounds of a real oompah pah band. Adults can also get in the Oktoberfest spirit with free bratwurst sliders and great beer tasting specials from Romer’s Burger Bar.

Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about Halloween! This year, we are hosting a Heebie-jeebies Halloween featuring Mike’s Critters where kids can meet and touch lizards, snakes and more. If critters aren’t your thing, there’s also pumpkin painting for your inner artist! This month’s Ladies Night teaches the basics of macramé so you can get to knotting up beautiful fibre art pieces.

Join us for upcoming activities at River District.

Join us in celebrating the new fall season with a little taste of the German tradition of Oktoberfest at the River District Neighbourhood Centre!

Polka to the sounds of Rheinlander’s Oompah Pah band or dance to the fun tunes from Carnival band. Science World will be there (thanks to the support of TD Canada Trust) with some fun demonstrations including a self-carving pumpkin and musical vegetables. A look back at some of the fun had at River District.

Free Yoga at Town Centre

We hosted our very first outdoor fitness class at Town Centre! The weather was by our side as it remained rain-free with a peek of sunshine. Thanks to everyone for coming out to practice with us on a beautiful Saturday morning! Kristy is an amazing instructor and guided us through the poses with clarity, and Adam was very helpful in demonstrating. We hope everyone enjoyed their fitness bags and River District towel, along with the goodies from our friends at Booster Juice and Save-On Foods.

City of Vancouver Open House

Residents of River District gathered for another session of the City of Vancouver Open House. Topics such as amenities (community centres, daycares, school, and more green space), transportation, parking issues were discussed. Thank you to everyone who came and for made their voices heard. Growing our community in the best way is made possible with active participation and collaboration.
