With the Save-On-Foods Kitchen, you can be the hostess with the mostest this summer.
With summer comes barbecues, patio hangs and endless get-togethers with friends and family. And, while we love the social aspect of summertime, we don’t love the inevitable organizing, preparing and cooking that comes along with it. It’s stressful enough planning any event. Wouldn’t it be great to have someone else do the heavy lifting while you sit back, relax and enjoy your guests’ company? Save-On-Foods thinks so too.
To help with your dinner prep, party prep or last-minute lunch, Save-On-Foods in River District’s Town Centre has a huge kitchen on site. The employees are busy at work making a large variety of food. From fresh sushi and sandwiches to ready-to-cook pizzas and hot soup, the Save-On Kitchen has everything you need to take your event from meh to memorable. While the kitchen is busy, you can visit with your guests, vacuum under the couch or take a nap. The opportunities are endless and think of all the time you’ll save!
Perhaps the most well known aspect of the Save-On-Foods Kitchen is the Wing Bar. This is sure to be a party favourite for your guests – and with 15 types of wings, there’s a wing for everyone. Think that sounds great? It gets better. Out of 174 Save-Ons across Canada, only 14 in the Lower Mainland have a wing bar and River District is one of them!
We caught up with Chris, the manager of Save-On in River District and Justin, the kitchen manager, to get the down-low on the wings and to do some taste testing. We got you the inside scoop on their favourites, our favourites and why the Save-On Kitchen is a great addition to the River District community.
When choosing a ‘favourite’ wing, it’s important to consider where you will be enjoying your wing. There was an excellent variety of dry, saucy and spicy wings, which assured us that there’s truly a wing for every occasion.
Our favourites were on the dry-rubbed side and included the surprisingly tasty dill pickle, salt & pepper and garlic parmesan, which tasted exactly like parmesan fries. Can’t complain about that! While staff favourites were a little saucier and included the coveted sweet thai chilli and the classic honey garlic. With a combined 27 years of experience, Justin and Chris were able to give us some great recommendations for dishes that would pair nicely with our wings. They suggested a fresh caesar salad, a cheesy pizza, or a chilled beer – or all of the above.
“People love our wing bar, it’s become a favourite amongst staff and the River District community. There’s something for everybody and I think people appreciate the quality and convenience the Save-On Kitchen provides,” Chris added.
With so many options to choose from, they’re the perfect appetizer, side dish or snack for days when you just don’t feel like cooking. Save-On cycles through its 15 flavours of wings, so every time you go you’re in for a surprise. Ranging from four different kinds of BBQ, to classics like buffalo, all the way to the oddly satisfying whiskey and Kentucky peach bourbon.
We left the Save-On Kitchen feeling fully satisfied with our wing selections and we can’t wait to go back soon. Check out the River District Save-On here or stop in to try some wings at 8550 River District Crossing in Town Centre. See you there!
