South Vancouver Family Place (SVFP) is a non-profit organization that provides programs to families with young children. Since 1975, their mission has been to support families to build healthy relationships and provide a community that fosters a positive, welcoming and nurturing environment.
Family Place offers private counselling sessions, parenting education and literacy (offered in different languages), hands-on gardening and food-prep, low cost multi-cultural weekly lunches, pre-school, groups for parents with babies under 1yr old and weekly family drop-ins.
As our Neighbourhood Centre has closed its doors temporarily, the amazing staff from South Vancouver Family Place have taken the initiative to get creative to provide online programs for families on social media and Zoom.
How are Family Place staff staying connected?
Here are some of the ways that South Vancouver Family Place is staying connected to families and providing resources for parents and caregivers!
- Ann’s Corner – Arts & crafts, games, recipes and other activities that are great for children and families who are looking for activities to do at home. View Blog – SVFP Blog
- Circle Time – Family Place staff sing nursery rhymes and encourage participation with simple dance moves and singing, just like at Family Place drop-ins. Circle time is hosted on Zoom from Tuesdays-Fridays at 10:30am (lines open at 10:15am). Sign up here.
- Felt Stories – Story-time with Ann. For families who attend the Fraserlands Family drop-ins, we will be sharing these videos on our River District Instagram in the coming week.
- One-on-One Counselling – Over the phone or online counselling via Zoom are available with the SVFP Adult Support Workers. Adult support workers are counsellors who can provide guidance with any questions or concerns including child development, family relationships, strong emotions (anxiety, anger, tantrums, loneliness), and generally finding ways to feel calm, happy and proud as parents and of your children. Book a session by contacting your preferred counsellor directly or select a time on their Facebook Page. For one-on-one counselling, donations are appreciated!
